Jesus prayed that we be one: to live out our lives in unity and community, to have a common bond between believers. We are called to love and support one another. Jesus gave us our marching orders: make disciples. How do we do that? By teaching from the Word of God what it is to be a Christian. Additionally, a dimension of making disciples is by evangelizing. Small groups can create the environment and take advantage of the opportunity to invite non-believers and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ.
The small group ministry is designed to provide a means for people who attend church to become meaningfully connected to the body and life of the church. The small group ministry goal is to break a large complex group into smaller, more manageable groups, then, assigning leaders to each so that everybody's needs are addressed. Small groups provide a unique opportunity to disciple and to evangelize. Small Groups exist to: "Provide a means for people to connect meaningfully to the church by connecting to each other."
Small groups accomplish meaningful connection by providing:
1. Strength from life's storms.
2. Wisdom for making important decisions.
3. Accountability, which is vital to spiritual growth.
4. Acceptance that helps repair wounds.
Meaningful connection will be accomplished by organizing and focusing with the "P-H-A-C-T-S" principle:
"P" - Prayer
"H" - Humility: to serve and be served
"A" - Affirmation: to celebrate God's work in our lives
"C" - Care giving: to love and be loved
"T" - Truth telling: to admonish and be admonished
"S" - Self-disclosure: to know and be known
