Children's Ministries
The children's Sunday School ministry at Christ Presbyterian Church is guided by the principle that God, not man, is the key player in history. God is the creator and sustainer of all life, and His purposes are fulfilled throughout all of history; thus, any realization of who we are requires that we know who God is in relation to us. God is presented as the main character in each set of curricula, rather than a focus on man and man's needs.
Lessons in general focus on the attributes, character, and promises of God, which give children a basis to respond to Him. Toddlers begin by hearing foundational Bible stories and begin to recite simple truth statements as they form their language skills. Pre-kindergarten students learn what it means to be part of God's family and live as God's children. Kindergarten students explore stories from the Gospels to understand Christ's ministry and sacrifice. First graders use the alphabet as a framework for investigating the many attributes of God. Second graders learn that God's promises are gifts to the believer and are trustworthy and reliable. Third graders learn about God's redemptive plan chronologically through the Old Testament, seeing the foreshadowing of the coming Christ and his redemptive work. Fourth and fifth graders learn about the character of God as revealed in the many names of God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Our goal is to form a strong, biblical foundation in our covenant children so that they will continue to grow in the faith.
